Since the Club’s inception in the 1950’s it has rightfully gained a reputation for putting its money where it’s mouth is.   Literally dozens of organizations with similar education, conservation and youth-in-the-outdoors related missions have received financial support from the Club.  Concurrent with our desire to support organizations of similar ideology, we have recently begun to take a more hands on approach.  The Club and its Directors are making efforts to not only sponsor special events but to organize, coordinate and host events of our own.

One such example is C.A.S.T. for Kids.  C.A.S.T. (Catch A Special Thrill) is a nation wide organization dedicated to the education of youth in the fundamentals of respect for and enjoyment of the outdoors.  Using the experience and format developed by C.A.S.T., the Club’s Directors coordinated and hosted “real-world fishing tournaments” for each of the past two years.  Children who are patients in the Cancer Care Center at Fort Worth’s Cook Children’s Medical Center were invited to participate in this remarkable fishing bonanza.  Professional tournament fishermen and Club Directors alike were on hand to offer their time, talents and equipment to ensure these enthusiastic young anglers the chance to win the big prize.  Each child left with a better sense of respect for wildlife and their environment as well as trophy to commemorate their successes that day.   Volunteers left with much more than they expected in their hearts.

Camp Sanguinity is another such event that has become a heart-felt favorite of the Sportsmen’s Club of Fort Worth.  The Club was initially approached by Cook Children's Medical Center to assist financially with the operation of their summer camp at Camp Jon Marc.  Naturally, the fishing program Cook’s had developed for these youngsters was a perfect fit with our objectives and the Club sponsored some new equipment purchases and offered to send a few Director’s to Camp to teach the kids some fishing techniques.  That was four years ago.  Since then, the Club has adopted Lake Jon Marc as its own, stocked the lake and managed the lake’s habitat.  Due to better successes while fishing, the visitors to Camp Sanguinity have developed a real passion for the sport and we could not be happier.  Every July volunteers from the Club’s Board look forward to the chance to share some knowledge of fishing and the outdoors in exchange for some lessons on life from the brave and spirited visitors to Camp Sanguinity.
